تتصدر لوحة الفنان الليبي علي عمر أرميص، والتي تصور المعلقة السادسة من معلقات الشعر العربي السبع الشهيرة، مزاد كريستيز للأعمال الفنية العربية والإيرانية والتركية الحديثة والمعاصرة الذي تنظمه الدار في 19 مارس المقبل في دبي

وكان الفنان قد أهدى القطعة لمجلة “فيلانثروبي إيج” ومقرها في الشرق الأوسط، لدعم مساعيها الرامية إلى تعزيز المشاريع والأهداف الخيرية والنبيلة في المنطقة. وتبلغ القيمة التقديرية للوحة بين 120,000 180,000 دولار أميركي

وبناءً عليه قررت المجلة المساهمة بقسم من عائدات المزاد ومنحه للمفوضية السامية للأمم المتحدة لشؤون اللاجئين، لمساعدتها في جهودها الكبيرة والمتواصلة تجاه اللاجئين السوريين المتضررين من الأزمة الإنسانية التي تعيشها بـــلادهم

وفي هذا العمل، يقدم الفنان علي عمر أرميص قصيدة للشاعر عنترة بن شداد يصف فيها معاركه وتعقيدات الحياة وأبعادها الكثيرة. ومن خلال عدة طبقات من الأورانج والأحمر والبنفسجي، تتخللها نصوص وأحرف تقدم مسرحية نصية ثرية، يقوم الفنان بتضمين أبيات القصيدة كاملة والبالغ عددها 85 بيتاً ببراعة في مجموعة من الأحرف المتعددة بأحجام متنوعة، وتجمع القصيدة ما بين المعرفة والتجربة والتاريخ، وتحدد في الوقت ذاته مجموعة القوانين الأخلاقية للمجتمع

Tributes paid to leading Arab artist, Ali Omar Ermes

Renowned British Libyan artist and calligrapher Ali Omar Ermes has died aged 76. Born in 1945, in the Libyan city of Zliten, Ermes studied at the University of Plymouth in the UK. He returned to Libya after graduating in 1970, but later moved to London, where he completed a master’s degree at what later became Central Saint Martins.

Meem Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of an exhibition of the recent work of Ali Omar Ermes this December. Ali Omar, who is internationally renowned for his beautiful paintings based on Arabic literature and letterforms, exhibited his work at Meem in 2007 and we are delighted to present his second solo show at the gallery this winter. The artist will be in attendance during the opening.
